‘Truffle’ and ‘Everyone’s Trash’ win NH Literary Awards honors
PORTSMOUTH — Peter E. Randall Publisher LLC announced two of its titles received honors at the 2025 New Hampshire Literary Awards Oct. 18 at the Puritan BackRoom in Manchester. “Truffle: A Dog (and Cat) Story” by David McPhail won for children’s book, and “Everyone’s Trash: One Man Against 1.6 Billion Pounds” by Duncan Watson won the nonfiction award.
Two more Randall titles received finalist status: “The West Wind” by Andy Opel, illustrated by Karel Hayes and John Gorey in children’s; and “Katie Girl” by John Bentley in nonfiction.
“We’re proud to have received two 2025 NH Literary awards from the NH Writers Project,” said Deidre Randall, chief executive officer of Peter E. Randall Publisher LLC. “McPhail’s ‘Truffle’ helps children learn about diversity and finding connection with people who look or sound different from you. ‘Everyone’s Trash’ turns stories about what we discard into motivation for taking care of planet Earth. Building a strong community is an aspect of both of these books and we’re glad to share that message.”
“Truffle: A Dog (and Cat) Story” is the story of Truffle, a dedicated farm dog who loves his work but struggles with cats. McPhail is a member of the NH Literary Hall of Fame, with more than 200 published children’s books and many other awards.
“Everyone’s Trash: One Man Against 1.6 Billion Pounds” tells the truth about American waste. Each day, every single person in the United States, all 324 million, discards about five pounds of waste on average.
