Write-Tukubuli Virtual Literary Fest team celebrates a successful week of storytelling and Innovation!

The 2025 Write-Tukubuli Virtual Literary Festival has recently wrapped up a lively week-long homage to Caribbean and Dominican literary talent, attracting over seventy writers from the Dominican diaspora and beyond.
Organizers reported in a statement that its eclectic mix of programming included “dynamic panel discussions to intimate author interviews, showcasing the power and future of storytelling in an evolving literary landscape.”
The festival was a collaborative effort among several of Dominica’s leading literary organizations, notably Waitukubuli Writers, Piton Noire Collective, Nature Isle Literary Festival (via Facebook), and Domnichen Poetic Circle. Supporting the event as the main media partner was TDN Network, which helped amplify the festival’s reach.
Throughout the week, both emerging voices and established authors shared excerpts of their work, participated in meaningful conversations about the future of literature, and attended workshops designed to nurture upcoming writers.
The primary platform for the festival was the @writetukubuli YouTube channel, which streamed the entire program live and remains an accessible archive for viewers worldwide. Culminating in a six-hour live broadcast featuring a dynamic mix of hosts, DJ performances, open-mic segments, author interviews, panel discussions, and special presentations, the team said it was “a fitting close to a week celebrating both tradition and innovation in literary arts.”
Representatives from the organizing groups offered reflections on the event’s significance. Roy Sanford of Waitukubuli Writers expressed pride in being part of the initiative, noting that the enthusiastic participation from Dominican writers and the diaspora demonstrated the vitality of the island’s literary scene.
“The Waitukubuli Writers organization was happy to be part of this worthwhile venture. The response by writers and authors in Dominica and the diaspora, shows that Dominica’s literary landscape is alive and well,” he said.
Sam George, chair of the Piton Noire Collective, shared a personal perspective, describing the festival as an unexpected yet exhilarating experience, saying,”…this festival was the thing I didn’t know I needed.”
He highlighted its potential to attract more writers interested in genres like science fiction, fantasy, and folklore, emphasizing the creativity, diversity, and dedication of Caribbean writers in using storytelling to connect, challenge, and inspire global audiences.
“It was an honor and a pleasure to work with the team; hopefully, something great will come from this effort,” George remarked.
Les Li of the Domnichen Poetic Circle reflected on the festival’s role in revitalizing Dominica’s literary scene, especially in light of the legacy of the late playwright Dr. Alwyn Bully and the previous Nature Island Literary Festivals. He described Write-Tukubuli 2025 as an unprecedented event that symbolized the island’s literary resurgence—rising “like a Phoenix from the ashes”—and characterized the effort as more than just a monumental achievement, but a “picnic by the river,” signifying its relaxed yet successful nature.
Celia Sorhaindo, via the Nature Isle Literary Festival Facebook page, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with other organizations to bring this inaugural virtual festival to life. She emphasized that the event continued the vision and mission of Dr. Bully—celebrating, supporting, and inspiring Caribbean writers and literary arts at large.
“TDN Media and G & D Enterprises are proud and honored to have been part of the Write-Tukubuli literary festival. This Festival carved out a space where the rich spread and depth of Dominican Literature was on full display to be enjoyed and explored. The collaboration, and unselfish sharing and support among all participants, were particularly special.”
